Atheist Student Alliance at USF

The Atheist Student Alliance (ASA) is a student organization at the University of South Florida with the purpose of promoting fellowship and understanding among our members and within the USF community as a whole.

Meetings every week: THURSDAYS at 9:00 p.m. in the Marshall Student Center

Why Are We Here?

The goals of the Atheist Student Alliance are:
  • To promote an understanding of atheists on campus.
  • To provide an open forum in which to discuss ideas in a non-hostile environment.
  • To promote fellowship and camaraderie between our members and the campus as a whole.
Reasons for being active:
  • Because many atheists encounter prejudice, misunderstandings and stereotypes, we feel it is vital to be known instead for who we really are.
  • Because we wish to remain above the influence of groups that spend millions to promote dubious religious claims.
  • Because integrity demands that we be honest both with ourselves and with others.
How does ASA benefit us?
  • Gain valuable knowledge, experience and confidence from opportunities to engage in critical thinking.
  • Contribute your voice to greater understanding for all students in the USF community.
  • Make new friends with those who share common interests.
  • Create your own benefit! Ultimately, our members are the ones who choose what we will do. What do you want the Atheist Student Alliance to accomplish?

Past Events and Activities

SCIENCE OR SAVAGERY?

ASA sponsored the appearance on campus of Nobel Laureate Harold Kroto. He presented his lecture, "Can the Internet Save the Enlightenment?" on Saturday, January 17, 2009, in the Marshall Student Center Ballroom. About 90 students, faculty and visitors attended.

Meet & Greets

The Atheist Student Alliance staffed a table from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, 1/14, at the Bull Market. We shared free pizza with the USF community and several members also provided an alternative voice to the "Fear God" preacher tag-team crazies who shout imprecations and insults at students outside Cooper Hall. Our take on the atheist alternative is free from groundless fear and promotes education, tolerance, curiosity and rational thinking.
